WHEDA is seeking a Chief Communications Officer to join our Executive Team in our Madison facility

Position Overview: The position of Chief Communications Officer has overall responsibility for prioritizing and setting direction for the Communication activities of the Authority, ensuring effective, efficient, and best practice operating principles to maintain a stable and profitable organization. Manages the performance of the Marketing/Communications and Community and Economic Development (CED) leaders and their respective teams.

SALARY: Hiring Range for this position is from $135,090 to $153,439 Annually. Offered Salary will be based on qualifications and internal pay equity. WHEDA provides a competitive salary and WHEDA employees participate in the State of Wisconsin benefit package which includes retirement, health insurance and deferred compensation programs.

The most qualified candidates will have the ability to:

  1. Take overall responsibility for internal communications, external communications and brand management. 
  2. Own the WHEDA communications plan, the Chief Communications Officer will work to drive brand relevance, consistency and engagement across all touchpoints.
  3. Re-image the planning, developing, implementing and monitoring the overall business marketing strategy. 
  4. Understanding market research, pricing, product marketing, marketing communications, advertising and public relations.
  5. Create, drive and manage messages that support the Authority’s mission, vision, priorities and culture, and deliver them to internal and external audiences with differing needs, motivators, and perspectives.
  6. Think strategically and help to develop the connection with the Community and Economic Development (CED) unit.

OTHER ESSENTIAL DUTIES: 

  • Identifies opportunities to strengthen WHEDA's brand, reputation, leadership in the area of affordable housing with a focus on building and strengthening external relations.
  • Actively works to re-imagine, plan, develop, implement and monitor over all business marketing strategy that delineates our partner and customer segments and targets each individually to generate outcomes that align with the overall strategic plan and culture of the Authority.
  • Oversees external activity and divisions (Marketing/ Communications and Community and Economic Development (CED) through the following efforts: 
    • Coordinates the plans and tactics deployed by Marketing and Communications and CED to assure best possible outcomes supporting the strategy.
    • Assures consistency in the branding and delivery across all messaging, marketing and communications actions for both internal and external.
    • Oversee market research, pricing, product marketing, marketing communications, advertising and public relations.
  • Collaborates with and supports CEO, along with other C-Team leaders serving in senior leadership roles. 
  • Create, drive and manage messages that support the Authority’s mission, vision, priorities and culture, and deliver them to internal and external audiences with differing needs, motivators, and perspectives.
  • Supervises staff to include prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff are trained; ensuring that employees follow policies and procedures; maintaining a healthy and safe working environment; and, making hiring, termination, and corrective recommendations.
  • Develop a range of communication campaigns and change management projects aimed at enhancing informed decision making and reducing vulnerabilities across the communities served by the Authority.
  • Develop internal publications, such as newsletters, releases, email announcements, planned publications, on-line intranet, video, etc.
  • Performs or assists with other duties as assigned.

 QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations or Business Administration, or a closely related field and 10 years of progressively responsible, professional level experience directly related to the area of assignment, AND 6 years of management level experience; OR, an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Attention to detail, and ability to troubleshoot for process improvement
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Problem solving skills and ability to work under pressure
  • Successful prioritizing and management of work projects
  • Strategic thinker who builds relationships and strengthens team dynamics and structure.
